About Melanated Wellness (and me!)
Hi, My name is Erin Nkele, LCPC, and I am glad to meet you. I specialize in working with people from adolescence through adulthood as they navigate the nuances of modern life. I value being a culturally sensitive therapist and actively promote mental health in communities of color, indigenous, LGBTQIA, and neurodiverse communities. My training and clinical experience include working with issues relating to trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, gender identity, sexual identity, and self-esteem. I usually apply a person-centered approach that meets people where they are, and partners with clients in their process towards empowerment, creating meaningful relationships, and constructing purposeful lives. As a therapist I value the importance of social and family systems.
I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma-focused therapy in my work and have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing* (EMDR), Mental Health First Aid, Youth Mental Health First Aid and am working towards credentials as a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP).
I received my Bachelors of Science in Psychology at Xavier University of Louisiana and am proud to be a survivor of Hurricane Katrina. Additionally, I received my Masters of Arts in Mental Health Clinical Counseling, making history, in 2016, as a graduate of the first cohort program at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Washington D.C.'s campus.
(*EMDR trained through a certified EMDRIA approved training via the Rivers Edge Institute)
